Quarry Bank Cottage, Beadnell
Welcome to Quarry Bank Cottage, our fantastic holiday cottage located in the beautiful coastal village of Beadnell, Northumberland.
And this is Beadnell Bay, our local beach!

Beadnell Bay
A beautiful 3 km long horseshoe shaped golden sandy beach that is sheltered by sand dunes. It remains accessible even at high tide.

Beadnell Village
Beadnell is a charming village consisting of a mixture of old cottages and pretty newer homes.
It has a general store with off licence. There is a cafe/bistro. You can find a pub serving food with a great beer garden. There is also a boutique hotel where you can dine. All dog friendly.
For families with young children, there are two playgrounds, on Longbeach Drive, and off Meadow Lane.
The village church, St. Ebba holds regular services.

Quarry Bank Cottage
Sleeps 4
Our self-catering cottage is ideal for both couples or small families and has a relaxed, home from home feel.
Its position at the end of a cul-de-sac means there is no traffic noise to disturb you.
But it’s the house’s position at the edge of the old quarry lake that we fell in love with. All of our windows look out over the lake!
Fed by an underground water source, and with no human access, the old quarry has become a wildlife haven for visiting birds.
Sitting on our patio with a pot of tea is such a peaceful way to start your day.

Dog Friendly
Both our holiday cottage and many of the local beaches are dog friendly. This makes us the perfect location for adventures with your four legged friends.
Northumberland Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) Partnership have created a useful guide. It is intended for dog owners who want to visit Northumberland beaches with their dogs.
Our Working Cocker Spaniel, Darcy, loves to visit Northumberland. Many miles of golden sandy beaches are available to explore. There are also several publicly accessible forests inland too.

Cottage Location
What a beautiful place. Views of the lake from every window.
Extract from guest book review by Michael, Beverley & Nelly The Dog, September 2024
The herons daily visit, crowds of swifts scooping flies from the water, ducks, moorhens coots and bats.
Lying in bed listening to the waves.
We will certainly come again.
Beadnell Harbour
Beadnell harbour, though small, is unique. It has the only West facing harbour entrance on the East coast of England.
Behind the harbour sit Grade II listed lime kilns. They were long ago abandoned. Now they are used by the fishermen to store their lobster pots.
It’s a picturesque location, with benches for people to stop, rest and admire the views.

The Environment Agency has rated the water quality at Beadnell ‘Excellent’ for the past 5 years in a row.

Bamburgh
No stay on the North East coast is complete without a visit to Bamburgh. It is a beautiful village that features the spectacularly positioned Bamburgh Castle. The village also has the RNLI Grace Darling Museum and a 2 km long golden sandy beach. This combination makes it a deservedly popular day out.

Seahouses
A bigger village than Beadnell, Seahouses has a number of gift shops, restaurants, takeaways, pubs and fish and chip shops.
Day trips to the Farne Isles departs from Seahouses Harbour.
Farne Islands
A group of uninhabited islands under the care of the National Trust, the Farnes are a brilliant day out. The lighthouses on the islands are also the inspiration for our logo!
If you are lucky on your day trip, you might spot a pod of dolphins off the islands. They have even been known to chase the boats.
The Farnes are home to a grey seal colony. Thousands of pups are born on the islands every autumn.
If you visit between April and July, you should manage to catch sight of the puffin colony. There are many other colonies of birds resident throughout the year.
Holy Island | Lindisfarne
Holy Island attracts tens of thousands of visitors annually. It has an ancient religious and medieval history. You can visit Lindisfarne Castle or simply stay outdoors and enjoy the spectacular scenery and wildlife.
Holy Island is connected to the mainland by a causeway, which is flooded at every high tide!
It is vital that you check the tide times before planning your journey to the island. It is very dangerous to attempt the crossing outside of the safe times listed via the link below. The causeway is submerged under several meters of water at high tide.

Dunstanburgh Castle
A few minutes drive down the coast, the spectacular ruins of Dunstanburgh Castle, managed by English Heritage are a wonderful sight.
We’d advise parking in the village of Craster, and walking the spectacular 2 km route to the castle. It’s mostly level ground, well signed and impossible to get wrong!
Beyond the castle is Embleton Bay, another stunning, dog friendly beach.

Alnwick
The nearest town to Beadnell, 15 minutes drive away.
Alnwick Castle has been used as a film and TV setting for many years, but became even more well known when the Harry Potter film franchise used the castle to depict Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.
The Alnwick Garden is a separate attraction to Alnwick Castle and is probably most famous for its cascading water features and spectacular fountains. The water rills are especially popular with young children.
The Treehouse, which sits outside of the main walled garden, is magical and just as you’d imagine a huge treehouse to look! It has a restaurant inside and a series of suspended walkways and suspension bridges between the trees.
Housed in the town’s old Victorian Railway Station, Barter Books is a huge, second hand book store, complete with a cafe, open fires, sofas and even its own overhead model railway!
Also in Alnwick you’ll find Willowburn Leisure Centre, with a lovely clean, modern public swimming pool, as well as a bouldering wall, both ideal for rainy days.
